Plastic Bamboo Shades
I’ve been searching for the perfect bamboo shades for years! It’s such a challenge to find that perfect color and also have them blackout and cordless. Everytime I would search, I would have a George Banks moment: “someone at the blind company got together with someone at the blackout lining company and decided to rip off the decorating public.”
When researching all the options of Bamboo Blinds (there are hundreds of options), I came to learn that basic bamboo shades aren’t that expensive and you can get them at many places. I have an excellent set of bamboo shades in my office that I love; they filter light, add some texture to the windows, and greatly improve the decor! I’ve recommended these light filtering bamboo shades to clients many times! They are perfect for adding a little texture if you don’t need total privacy.

Bamboo & Woven Wood Shades
However, when it came to our bedroom, I wanted them to be blackout and I wanted them to be cordless. I wanted blackout so that we could truly block light from our windows and total privacy. I wanted these to be cordless for the seamless look. We previously had bamboo shades hanging in our living room and I really didn’t enjoy the cord constantly hanging. It totally took away from the beautiful design of the window so cordless was important.
When you combine these priorities of bamboo, blackout, and cordless–wow, the prices! Some shades were priced around $350 a window! I could not find an option in standard sizes; yet again, some companies got together and realized that people want these options and they made it custom and hiked up the prices and therefore, non-returnable. I searched for a option that was semi-custom, but I could not find one.
Another reason I love our little Instagram community; a friend reached out and suggested justblinds.com. She sent me photos of the blackout blinds hanging in her living room and it was exactly what I wanted and only around $150 a window.
How To Add A Privacy Liner To Bamboo Blinds & An Faq
They are completely custom but at an affordable price (half what some other brands where charging). We have slept in our room with these for a few nights and we love them! I am so thankful I now have a good, affordable bamboo blind option to recommend to clients, friends, and y’all!
The blackout liner is truly blackout and provides excellent privacy. The Antigua Natural is a spectacular bamboo finish with wonderful depths of color. When they first arrived, I thought it had a bit of a green hue to it, but upon closer inspection, I think it’s just real bamboo. I love the light and dark tones of the shades as this unites the various shades of other wood tones in the room as well.
There’s also a special plastic holder to snap on the bottom where you grab to pull the shade up and down, but it’s not visible when lifted because of the folds. Smart detail!
